The Dragon Kings (also known as Dragon Gods) are prominent figures in the classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West. Each rules one of the Four Seas: East, West, North, and South. They are generally depicted as powerful, immortal beings, but ultimately subservient to the Jade Emperor.

Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East Sea, is the most frequently encountered in the narrative. His underwater palace is a treasure trove of magical artifacts. He is initially presented as arrogant and unwilling to part with his possessions, specifically the Dragon King's staff, which Sun Wukong (The Monkey King) demands and steals.

The Dragon King is later humiliated and forced to lodge a complaint against Sun Wukong in the celestial court. Despite his high status, he proves unable to directly challenge Wukong, illustrating the Monkey King's immense power and growing influence. While antagonists, the Dragon Kings generally represent bureaucracy and the established order against which Wukong often rebels.
